+ + + The Alchemical Codex Society + + +

Greetings!

Announcing the opening of The Alchemical Codex Society website.

The Alchemical Codex Society [ACS] began as a small group of Etsy Artisans who formed a team for Book Artists and their Art. This is a team of highly creative individuals who don't necessarily create books themselves, but rather, create sculptures and other art from actual books which have been discarded. As team members, we see this not only as the ultimate reduce, reuse and recycle project, but also, as a really cool and unique way to transform orphaned books into works of fine art. This site is a place for these artists to showcase their work, both past and present, as well as to generate interest about the team and its members. We hope you enjoy our work.

+ + + JadedLovers.com + + +

I wanted to announce the opening of a cool new site called Jadedlovers.com. I became involved with this site when i was hired to design the entire wardrobe that all the models on the site are wearing. So all the clothing you will see on the site has been fashioned by my little self. But enough about that... Not just for dating, JadedLovers.com has many categories of social interaction types you can choose from. Whether you are looking for a good time, parties, activity pals, friends, dating, bed buddies or the real deal in a relationship, you can find it here. Keep in mind that the site has just launched and has not yet built up a large database of members. But that just proves that it is real. Unlike those other sites which have robots and fake members in order to entice people to join, JadedLovers.some is 100% real.. 100% honest. The creator of the site concept is a great person and not a collection of smarmy, corporate businessmen who don't care about anything but making money. Check it out and help the community grow!

You can view the web site at the following URL

I am finally done redesigning the "Frak-tured" section of my art website. I started this project about 10 years ago when i knew nothing about HTML and was using Geoshitties as a site builder and host. But i always had a visual in my head of what i really wanted the section to look like, and now, you can see something closer to this vision.

Check it out. More stories will be added soon, so check back later.

+++ X's Little Shop of Horrors +++

I live in such strangeness that i often forget exactly how strange it is to "normal" people.

So, after about three hours of sleep the other night, i woke up to the sound of someone banging on my door. I jumped out of bed and couldn't even focus my eyes.. or brain! But somehow, i made it down the stairs to answer. I opened the door and i saw a wild looking Samoan dude with really long hair who was obviously the gas repairman who was scheduled to arrive that day, but i was so out of it that i didn't realize who he was at first.

Anyway, after i figured that out, he came in. I apologized for being out of it and probably looking like a wreck, and he smiled and said "I wish my wife looked so good when she rolled out of bed". I let that one go, and then he said he had to go upstairs into the loft to check on the chimney to make sure it wasn't leaking any gases. Since i had just woken up, i really had to pee so i told him to go up and i would be there in a minute. I went to the bathroom and heard him walk up the stairs and say "WHOA!", and i hurried up to come see what was going on. Because i had gotten out of bed so quickly, i had left the lights off up in the loft, and he walked upstairs to see my mannequin Edith sitting naked in the chair, and thought she was a real woman. Her body is permanently fixed in a position where her legs are slightly open, and one hand is near her crotch, so from a quick distant glance, she looks like she could be masturbating. I bet he thought it was his lucky day.

After that shock was over, he was looking around and he was clumsy like repairmen often are. So he turns around quickly, and an old mannequin hand i have falls down on him and he backs up and knocks over the bucket of bones that i keep for inclusion in various art projects.

I hope you know that i am laughing my ass off as i type this. And i was laughing it off when it happened too.

The poor guy looked so freaked out and he asked me what i was doing with bones. Then he asks "Are they HUMAN bones?!"

Ummmmmmmm, yeah.. right. From the last 5 gas repairmen who arrived at the house.. but never left.

And after all that, the dolt asks me if i am married or if i live alone. Not being fully awake and defensive, i say i live alone, and he perks up and says, "We should hang out sometime". All i could think of was "Yeah, and i bet your wife would love that".

MEN! They can't even control themselves when a girl is in her thermal pj's and her hair is all messy, and a mannequin hand and bucket of bones has just fallen on them.

+++ Not Your Mother's Satanic Inbred Hick Flick +++

Tonight i saw a strange little French horror flick called "Sheitan". The title sounded deceptively Japanese to me, but hey, what do i know?

Now before you rush out and buy this flick on DVD, well, don't bother, but it is definitely worth one viewing from NetFlix or Blockbuster.

Yes, all the standard cliches that piss me off about American horror movies are in this one. A group of twenty something kids head out for a night of clubbing at the local disco, and end up taking off at closing time to a remote little village because one or two of the guys hope to get some cornpone country pussy from a girl who comes on to them in the club. Rule number one: If you are a dorky guy, and a cute farmer's daughter type in a flippy Paris Hilton skirt starts dirty dancing with you within minutes of your arriving at the club, be very suspicious, and run like hell back to your place in the city and jerk off in the safety of your bed. You will thank me for this advice later.

I don't want to say much more about the rest of the film in case you decide to see it. Let me just say that there are oodles of oddities in this film, including your standard French countryside inbred hicks, oddly grinning farmers and pitbulls who apparently have more lives than a cat, young girls who want sexual contact with complete strangers... and lots of it, unsuspecting canines being sexually molested by these same girls, a pregnant woman [at least i think it was supposed to be a woman] who is also a frustrated doll maker, a hot spring swimming hole in a dark cave, and a goat that looks like it would be Satan's most favorite pet. You see where this is all going, don't you? But trust me, you have never seen it quite like this before.

Yeah, it has more than a few unbelievable moments, but for some reason, the film is more tolerable. Maybe because there are no cheesy one-liners that always ruin American horror films. Maybe because there are a few genuinely funny and creepy scenes in this little sleeper. Maybe because the entire movie is in French [with subtitles], and foreign things have always appealed to me. Maybe because the house these kids end up in is at once beautiful and decaying, and if i had to be molested and brutally murdered, what better location could i think of? Maybe because there is an entire attic that is filled with old, creepy ass dolls and puppets that i fell in love with and want to own.

Either way, if by some chance you are in your local video store and happen to see this flick on display, pick it up and take it home for a night. And don't forget a bag of Pop Secret Extra Butter. And save the bag. If you are particularly wimpy, you may need it for the final scenes.

+++ This "Winter" Sucks Ass! +++

Anyone who knows me even half well knows that i not only love Winter. I live for it. It is my favorite time of year to batten down the hatches, brew up a pot of coffee or hot chocolate, and work in the studio continuously until the end of March.

But what is with this weather we are having so far this season?! The other day, it was in the 70's in NYC, which isn't too far from my location. Any day now i expect the Crocuses to pop their heads up through the cursed soil in my yard. Birds will begin building nests in my AC, and i can almost hear the splashing of neighborhood children in their little plastic swimming tubs.

And all i can think to myself is "I WANT SNOW, DAMN IT, AND LOTS OF IT!"

I want to walk outside with my old wooly scarf wrapped around my face, hearing the ice crunch underneath my funky boots.

I want to wake up, and hurry to get all my boring shit out of the way, so i can spend the night painting, only taking breaks to look at the snow falling outside my window, check my email, and maybe, pee.

After i am finished for the night, i want to curl up in bed under my old velvet patchwork quilt wearing my thermies, and watch movies until the sun comes up. And not wake up all gross and sweaty like i have been doing for the past few months.

If this keeps up, i am packing my bags and heading to Alaska.. land of Eskimos, Longshoremen, Serial Killers and Strange Little Artists who love most the season when everything dies.

++ While i was oblivious on Vicodin.... ++

I completely missed out on a lot of things, including the deaths of James Brown and Gerald R. Ford. RIP guys. :(

Now, back to my oblivion...

For the past two weeks i have been in excruciating oral pain. My 'regular' dentist was away for the holidays, and last week i ended up in the ER begging for something to take away the pain until i saw my dentist on Tuesday January 2. At the ER, i was told that i would need a Root Canal, and they gave me some Vicodin to tide me over, as well as an antibiotic for the infection.

Well, i saw my dentist yesterday, and was told that the tooth which is causing the most problem is actually the #32 Wisdom tooth, and that it is completely cracked in half and needs to be removed a.s.a.p. So, tomorrow i will be off to call an Oral Surgeon, whom i hope can get this damn thing out of my mouth in the next week if not sooner.

I also have a few teeth that need to be filled, but that will have to wait until after the Oral Surgery. Once the Wisdom tooth is gone, and the teeth are filled, i should be off the Vicodin and back to my usual, less drugged out self.

As you can imagine, i am not looking forward to the surgery. Anyone who knows me well knows that i HATE doctors and dentists, but i HATE surgery even more, and i avoid these things as much as possible.

I celebrated New Year's Eve with my pain meds, a Twilight Zone marathon and a shot of Jack Daniels at midnight. It doesn't get much better than that, right?!

After making a declaration that i hadn't done "anything creative" aside from the new clothing line, i remembered that i had a bunch of stuff that hadn't yet made it to Anthroid.net. The problem is that i have too many sites, and too much work and i can't keep track of what is and isn't on them!

Anyway, without further adieu i present new[ish] work.

++ Will she? Won't She? ++

It just dawned on me that aside from working almost non-stop on various aspects of the new clothing line for the past year, i have done little else creatively. When i first started working on ideas for the new line, i never thought it would take me so long from concept to completion, but there was SO much work to do. I have never gone this long without painting or making some kind of art!

I think for the winter, i will move back to the "A's", as in 'Assemblage and 'Abstract Painting'. I have been toying with ideas in my head for these two ventures, but i was so sidetracked with the clothing line, that i have had time for little else but thinking.

Also, unlike past years, i worked straight through the summer. I usually take the summer off, and dash headlong into work in the fall and winter, but i almost feel like i need a short break right now. But i hate to take a break during my normally most prolific time of the year. This sucks! Ah well, perhaps a short break is in order? Don't mind me.. I am just thinking out loud.

I hope your Turkey or Tofurkey was delicious!

++ Take This Longing ++

I tried to do the unthinkable and go to bed early tonight, but couldn't get to sleep. I think i am overtired from the past few days of non-stop socializing and catching up with old friends.

Anyway, instead of sleeping, i watched the new Leonard Cohen Tribute/Documentary and i was blown away. Not so much by the performances of the likes of Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Beth Orton, and Bono/U2 who did covers of Cohen's work [with the exception of Antony of 'Antony and The Johnsons' who did a freaking amazing job with his cover of "If It Be Your Will"]. I mean, face it, NO ONE is as great as Cohen, and NO ONE can top the combination of his voice, words and delivery. What really blew me away was watching Leonard speak about his work, and life. He is such a beautiful soul, and i am so happy that someone did a documentary about him before he passes off this planet.

While watching the documentary, i was struck with the feeling that he might not be with us much longer, and this caused me to shed more than a few tears. But then again, i am just a big, old baby when it comes to deep and beautiful men with deep and beautiful words.

++ This Ain't No Peepshow! ++

So, tonight i was getting ready for a meeting with a friend. I took a shower and was standing there, completely wet and naked with nothing more than a towel on my head, when my little kitty Milagro decides to start playing with the window shade.

I wasn't paying much attention to him because he is a 6 month old kitten who is always playing with something. My attention was quickly grabbed when he jumped up at the shade, and it came crashing down to the ground. I covered myself with my hands as quickly as i could, while screaming at him, "HELLO?!.. NAKED PERSON HERE!".

I stood there mortified, and quickly ducked down, but not until after i had noticed a group of college students congregated in the parking lot to the side of my house.. and in full view of my bathroom window. One of the boys in the group even waved at me. My, i am so lucky to live in such a friendly neighborhood.

Ah well, i suppose that since i rarely leave the house completely naked with just a towel on my head, that i should be safe and go discretely unrecognized the next time i do venture out... Right?

++ Dude.. Chill ++

A few weeks ago i decided to clean out the garage, in hopes of selling some stuff, as well as getting rid of other things.

But before i get into this story, i have to tell you a little about the garage situation. In keeping with the fucked up design scheme of the house i live in, the garage is behind the house, on the street that runs parallel to my street. So, you don't think this notation is important? Well, you will as i get more into my story.

I threw out more than i had expected, and ended up with a huge refrigerator shipping box full of junk. In addition, i also decided to trash an old computer chair and a behemoth 22" monitor which has seen better days, but i was saving "just in case". It was pouring outside at about 10:00 pm that night, and i dragged the huge shipping carton around the block so i could dispose of it in front of my house. On the way, it got soaked and started to fall apart and i had to retrace my steps to pick up the debris which i left along the way. I was however, not about to drag the computer chair and monitor that distance, so i decided to dump them in the pile of garbage at the house closest to my garage.

Just as i was finishing up, this decrepit old potato farmer of a man suddenly appeared, screaming at me in broken English and Portuguese. "Don' put'a your garbag' in front o' my a'house!" I tried to explain to him that the trash collectors would be here in a matter of hours, and my two items would be gone, but this fucktard wouldn't take no for an answer, and insisted that i remove the items, or he would "Call'a the cops". I could almost hear him screaming into the phone, and the police laughing their ass off, but i just wanted him to shut up and leave me alone, so i told the dude to chill and eventually moved the stuff to the front of my house.

I have to wonder though, how anal retentive types like this guy get by in life? Personally, i couldn't give a flying fuck if someone dumped something in front of my house for a few hours until Waste Management picked it up. In fact, i wish more people would do that, as i would probably find a lot of interesting things out there to talk about here! I am not sure if any of the readers of this blog, who were also former members of my now defunct message board, will remember the box of porn DVD's i once found on my lawn, which i sold for a rather hefty price on eBay.

Or the humongous statue of Jesus which mysteriously appeared one day, and is still sitting outside if only because the damn thing weighs about 600 pounds and i can't find anyone strong enough to get it up my stairs!

+ As long as she ate the mouse she can neither see nor hear. She's like dead. +

So, i had my first Krispy Kreme doughnut experience a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, i was not impressed.

Now, let me start by saying that i have an infamous sweet tooth and would probably off myself if i were told that i could never again indulge in treats from the confectionary department, but i could go the rest of my next 6 lifetimes without another KK and it would all be good

The first bit of yuckiness i encountered was getting through the candy coating to the meat of the doughnut. Remember the sensation of walking on ice as a child, and watching the cracks appear as you pressed your foot to the frozen ground? Well, that was the scenario in my mouth, with my teeth playing the main character of a foot, and the KK coating starring in a supporting role as the ice. As soon as i bit into the doughnut, my teeth immediately had a seizure and began to ache, and it only went downhill from there.

Next in line for upping the gross factor was the fact that aside from the initial shock of my teeth feeling like they were beginning to disintigrate out of my mouth, was the amount of oozing grease. I might have sucked on a sponge which had been sitting in an oil vat and had a better experience. GAH!

And speaking of grease, what's with the undertaste? It took a while for me to notice, but there was a distinct undertaste.. a fishy undertaste! I can't figure out why a product from an establishment which sells only doughnuts and other sweets would taste like fish, but there you have it. My best guess is that the Jolly Roger Seafood restaurant next door is doubling their profits by selling the refuse from their Frialators, but what would i know? Not being much of a fan of fast food in general, i am probably not the best critic for these sort of eateries.

I will be back with another story in a bit. Right now i have to do something else. I am so far behind in blog posts that you might find out what i was doing for most of 2006 somewhere around 2008!

++ I Know What X Did Last Summer ++

Sweated my ass off and worked on a new line of Wearable Art Clothing which will soon be released.

In the meantime, check out what is left of the sale items on EpiphanyStrange.Com!

In other news: I can't wait to get back to painting. As much as i love cool clothes, i find that painting is one of my favorite escapes from reality. I am looking forward to battening down the hatches and working straight through March. I have a feeling it is going to be a long, cold winter. Yippee!

++ More signs that it is almost Autumn and that i am a complete geek with no interesting life whatsoever! ++

Well, i have two new friends, and possibly more. Call me Ishmael? Funk 'dat, i am just Doctor Doolittle.

I noticed a family of kittens hanging around my house. I realized tonight that they have been living in the "wooded area" to the side of my house.

I am a notorious sucker for animals, and these two kittens are no exception. Large plates of cat food and fresh water are now being left outside so these little ones will have something to eat. About 5 this morning i came outside to check on them, and they were both curled up, sleeping on the chair on my porch. As you may have guessed, i ran in to get my camera, but when i got outside again they had moved away to a slightly safer distance. Never the less, i was able to take a picture of each of them.

I look forward to the day when all the cuteness around me stops and i can get back to being the bitter, sarcastic and jaded X that you all know and [hopefully] love.

++ Signs that it is almost Autumn and i am a complete geek with no interesting life whatsoever! ++

Guess what happened to me while wandering around in the wee hours of a few nights ago, looking for interesting photographs for my other blog?

I saw something move out of the corner of my eye, and, thinking it was a cat, i promptly turned to say hello.... and came face to face [or side to back] with one of the largest, most beautiful skunks i have ever seen.

What struck me most about this critter [other than the fact that i was allowed to get so close without being sprayed], was the width of its central white stripe, which spilled over to the sides of its body. It was so busy getting an early start on the winter den digging ritual that i honestly don't think it noticed me, because, as you will see in the following pictures, i got well within the 15 foot spray span that a skunk is capable of.
